DAY 1

Words

We will start the week with a focus on words in our journal. Words can be in the form of poetry, prose, labels, lists, personal reflective writing and more. Take some time to explore the written word in your journal and deepen your experience of nature.

DAY 2

Pictures

Pictures are a wonderful way to explore a natural subject in your nature journal. You can use sketches, paintings, diagrams, maps, cartoons or even stick figures. Taking the time to draw a subject will help you understand it more fully.

Day 3

Numbers

Numbers are both fun and useful on a nature journal page. Time, date and temperature are important pieces of metadata that we use regularly and a quick way to add numbers. You can also try measurements, counts, tallies and estimations. There are so many ways to use numbers! Let’s explore them today.

Day 4

I Notice…

Today’s theme prompts us to take note of what we observe. Observation is one of the key elements of nature journaling and a skill that we can exercise and develop with practice. Begin to really take in what is around you. Experience the world with all of your senses and capture this in your journal.

DAY 5

I wonder…

As nature journalers we can let ourselves dive deeply into wonders and mysteries in the natural world! This process begins with questioning what we experience. Find the questions behind the questions until they carry you down the rabbit-hole of discovery!

DAY 6

It reminds me of….

John Muir Laws defines creativity as ‘the ability to make useful connections between seemingly unrelated things’. Today we will practice making connections between our observations in nature. Open your mind and allow these connections to take shape!

DAY 7

Mindset Matters

Today we are going to explore the idea of the fixed vs growth mindset, how to stay motivated and how to give feedback to ourselves and others that will help everyone to progress and grow as nature journalers. This is going to be inspiring!
